Thunder Bay, located on the shores of Lake Superior, is the most populous municipality in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. Formed in 1970 as the amalgamation of two cities, Thunder Bay is known as “the Lakehead” because it is Canada’s westernmost port on the Great Lakes and the end of Great Lakes Navigation.

Martha Farkas (b. 1959) is one of Canada’s most experienced amateur astronomers.
Farkas prefers traditional visual observing of solar system and deep sky objects using small telescopes. She is an active participant in Ottawa area astronomy events and an enthusiastic promoter of the Adirondack Astronomy Retreat.
