Helen Sawyer Hogg Memorial Lecture

Helen Sawyer HoggThe Helen Sawyer Hogg Public Lecture, is sponsored jointly by the Canadian Astronomical Society (CASCA) and the RASC. It is so named in recognition of the lifelong contributions of Helen Sawyer Hogg towards increasing public awareness and appreciation of the Universe around us, an aim that the lectureship also seeks to further. It is held annually, usually in conjunction with the annual meeting of the sponsors, alternating between the two Societies (the RASC hosts in even-numbered years and CASCA in odd-numbered years).

Selection of the speaker is made by a committee consisting of the Presidents of the two Societies and the Chair of the Local Organizing Committee hosting the meeting (CASCA or RASC)

The Local Organizing Committee shall have the responsibility for the local arrangements, including the publicity through the local media. Additionally, publicity shall be sent to local educational institutions, science clubs, libraries, etc., and to neighbouring Centres of the RASC, with the request that an announcement of the Lecture be posted and/or included in their newsletters or notices.

The presentation of the Lecture will be preceded by an introduction, normally given by the President of the host Society, which shall make particular mention of the joint RASC/CASCA sponsorship of the Lecture, and of the contributions of Dr. Hogg to astronomical research and education.
