The Art and Science of Observational Astronomy

Join RASC Ottawa for their monthly meeting! This month we will be joined by Jeremy Kuzub to discuss photographing the Aurora, and will be going over tips and tricks for beginner astronomers, such as how to make your own dew heaters, how to build a wheeled base for your tripod and even how to make a tripod out of crutches!

The collections of moons that orbit our giant planets are very like miniature planetary systems, each with their own dramatic history. In my presentation I will talk about the various moons of the solar system and how they have been shaped by orbital shenanigans with their fellow moons and their host planet.

Summer/Fall Planet Viewing Preview

Summer 2020 evenings will feature Jupiter and Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, and Mars, too! We'll preview how to view those planets, what features on them to look for, and some observing tips.

A Virtual Tour of the Southern Hemisphere

The skies down under (and in South America and Africa) host amazing sights not visible from Canada. We'll use Stellarium to travel to the Southern Hemisphere and see the sights.
