During the upcoming Total Lunar Eclipse on Sunday September 27, various RASC centres will be running public observing sessions. If the weather cooperates, telescopes will be set up at various sites across the country to provide views of the eclipse to members of the public. RASC members will be there to operate the telescopes and answer questions about the eclipse.
Calgary - Calgary Centre has events at the Calgary Canoe Club, Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park , Elliston Park, AllStar Telescope and at the Vulcan Trek Centre.
Astro-Imaging Projects for Amateur Astronomers, Jim Chung's intelligent and attractively written guide to making and adapting imaging and observing gear, has recently appeared in Springer's Patrick Moore Practical Astronomy Series.
Those familiar with Jim's articles in the RASC's Journal will know of his genius for devising understandable and doable solutions which perform as well as their commercial counterparts, and at a fraction of the cost.
We congratulate Jim on the appearance of his book!

On behalf of the Webteam and the IT Committee I'm pleased to inform you that our new website is now up and running. We've successfully migrated a great deal of content from our old CMS version to the latest and greatest. While there is still some work to be done we are ready to "go public" with our new site. Here are the highlights:
The Board of Directors of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) are pleased to announce that the RASC has purchased SkyNews Incorporated.
SkyNews Inc. has published SkyNews magazine since 1999. SkyNews Inc. also owns SkyNews.ca and publishes a monthly e-newsletter. SkyNews is the Canadian magazine for amateur astronomers and is the only popular, English-language science magazine for adults published in Canada.
The office will be closed from July 1-6 due to staff attending the GA in Halifax. For any urgent matters, please leave a voicemail and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
