New RASC Website Now On-line

On behalf of the Webteam and the IT Committee I'm pleased to inform you that our new website is now up and running. We've successfully migrated a great deal of content from our old CMS version to the latest and greatest. While there is still some work to be done we are ready to "go public" with our new site. The RASC Purchases SkyNews

The Board of Directors of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) are pleased to announce that the RASC has purchased SkyNews Incorporated.

SkyNews Inc. has published SkyNews magazine since 1999.  SkyNews Inc. also owns SkyNews.ca and  publishes a monthly e-newsletter.  SkyNews is the Canadian magazine for amateur astronomers and is the only popular, English-language science magazine for adults published in Canada.

David Dunlap Observatory donated to the RASC Toronto Centre

The RASC Toronto Centre has announced that Canada’s largest optical telescope is being donated to the dedicated amateur astronomers who’ve looked after it for the last six years.

It’s a great outcome for the David Dunlap Observatory – which is 80 years old this year.

Legendary lunar and planetary observer Walter Haas (1917-2015)

Legendary lunar and planetary observer Walter Haas (1917-2015) died on 2015 April 6. Haas was renowned for the skill, integrity, and intelligence he brought to the serious observation of solar-system objects. He also possessed effective organizational and leadership skills, which bore fruit in the founding and sustaining of the Association of Lunar and Planetary Observers (ALPO, 1947-), one of the outstanding organizations fostering meaningful amateur solar-system work.
