Asteroid (14988) Tryggvason

Bjarni Tryggvason (b.1945-09-21 in Reykjavik, Iceland; d.2022-04-05 in London, Ontario) was raised in Canada, studied at the University of British Columbia and Western University, and joined Canada's astronaut team in 1983. He flew on space shuttle mission STS-85. His expertise related to stable microgravity platforms and he taught at the University of Ottawa and the University of Toronto. The Canadian Space Agency's website has an official biography. In 2009, Tryggvason flew a replica of the Silver Dart on Baddeck Bay, the site of the first flight in the British Empire and, therefore, in Canada, on the hundredth anniversary of that historic flight. He was also active with a group that flies World-War-II-era training aircraft.
