Announcement #8 July 5, 1964

                    Comet Tomita-Gerber-Honda (1964-c)

This comet was discovered in the morning sky early last month,
and it soon moved too close to the sun for accurate observations. As a
result, no accurate ephemeris can be made at this time. However, the
following search ephemeris was received from the British Astronomical
Association, who warns that divergence from the ephemeris must be
expected. A shorter ephemeris received from Harvard indicates that the
comet may be about five degrees east of the following ephemeris.

        1964 (1950.0) Sets
        00h U.T. R.A. Dec. Mag. 44°N. 54°N.

The comet may be visible in the western sky soon after sunset.
The approximate local mean time of "comet-set" is given for latitudes
44° and 54° North, based on this ephemeris. If, however, the Harvard
ephemeris is correct, the comet will set about 20 minutes later.
Approximate times for intermediate latitudes may be found by linear
interpolation. To convert to Standard time, see page 12 of the
"Observer's Handbook" for the correction to be made for your location.
For Daylight Time, add one hour to the correction.

Please send reports of observations of this comet to the under-
signed.
