RASC eNews

Astronomy Day is an international science education and outreach event head annually in April of each year. Many RASC Centres will be celebrating the day with special activities and events that you are welcome to come out to!

Highlights this year are an impressive waxing Moon, the planet Jupiter and the amazing planet Saturn.

Here are just some of the Astronomy Day events on offer from East to West across the country:

The RASC Vancouver Centre is hosting a spectacular Astronomy Day event on Saturday, April 27th.

Location

  • Hosted at the Burnaby Campus of Simon Fraser University
  • Academic Quadrangle, South Concourse (see map)
  • Free admission (university parking fees in effect)

Afternoon Activities

From 11 am to 4 pm to include:

Toronto, Canada (April 15, 2013) – Members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) and its 29 local RASC Centres will celebrate International Astronomy Day this Saturday, April 20, 2013. Be on the lookout for telescopes and astronomers to pop up unexpectedly on street corners, in shopping malls and other public places, ready and eager to bring the universe down to Earth for everyone!

This morning on CTV's Canada AM, York University professor and longtime RASC member Paul Delaney sat down with host Marci Len to discuss NASA's ambitious plan to capture an asteroid.

Astronomical images and sketches of all types are invited for consideration for publication in the 2014 RASC Observer's Calendar including: deep sky, solar system, and dramatic astronomically themed landscapes. Images can be prime focus, piggyback, eyepiece projection, or fixed tripod; and recorded on a digital/CCD camera, film, or webcam.

Two members of the RASD (the Royal Astronomical Society of Daves) were recently interviewed on CBC radio in Nova Scotia.
