Toronto Centre Reopens David Dunlap Observatory to Public
The Toronto Centre reports that the first night of public tours at the newly reopened David Dunlap Observatory was a resounding success with nearly 100 guests enjoying a presentation by Toronto Centre Honorary President Dr. Roberto Abraham and then touring the historic 74" telescope.
A new 100 mm eyepiece was used for public viewing of M57 and M13 which provided excellent views for the public when the skies cleared at about 10:00 pm. Tours are continuing during the summer. For information and reservations please visit www.theddo.ca.

Robert Thirsk Addresses University of Calgary from ISS
On July 8, the University of Calgary (Dr. Thirsk's alma mater) awarded the distinguished Canadian an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.
The highlight of the ceremony was an interactive, live videocast from Bob aboard the International Space Station where he is a member of Expedition 20/21.

Kouchibouguac National Park declared NB's first Dark Sky Preserve
Kouchibouguac National Park has been declared New Brunswick's first Dark Sky Preserve joining other DSPs in Ontario, Alberta, Quebec and Saskatchewan.

RASC's Toronto Centre to Operate Dunlap Observatory
Metrus Development and RASC, Toronto Centre have reached an agreement in principle to re-open David Dunlap Observatory and operate it for astronomical outreach and research purposes. Public programs are expected to begin this summer as part of the International Year of Astronomy.
