                   COMET BARBON, 1966c.


       This is a note to active observers and other members of the R.A.S.C. who
may have a special interest, and is not a formal announcement.

       Comet Barbon was discovered with the 48-inch Schmidt at Palomar on August
15, 1966.  Magnitude is roughly nineth, but is uncertain.  Discovery position:

               Aug. 15 at 09:02 UT...   RA          Dec.
                      (Epoch 1950)...   00h 46m.2   00° 05m North.
                      Daily motion...           1'      15'
                                                east     south
               Tail less than one degree.


       The following search ephemeris was prepared, assuming constant motion:

                    Aug. 24    00:47    2° S.
                         28    00:47    3
                    Sept. 1    00:47    4
                          5    00:48    5° S.

       This comet is now in Cetus.  Please report early observations as soon
as possible.  Instruction forms will be sent upon request.
