                         TWO NEW COMETS

COMET IKEYA-SEKI (1965f)

Ikeya and Seki, two amateur astronomers in Japan, discovered this
eighth magnitude comet on September 18. It will be visible in
small telescopes in the morning sky during October as it moves from
Hydra to Corvus. The following preliminary ephemeris was taken
from I.A.U. Circular 1924, and could be in error by several degrees.

COMET ALCOCK (1965h)

British amateur astronomer G.E.D. Alcock discovered this tenth mag-
nitude octet on September 26. No ephemeris is available but the
comet is currently in the "square" of Hercules, and visible in the
evening sky. The following two positions were received on I.A.U.
Circulars 1923 and 1924, and estimated positions may be determined
     by extrapolation.
